FOBBV to hold a special live chat this Friday for the community to share about Jackie

Friends of Big Bear Valley says it will hold a special live chat this Friday, August 14, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Pacific, so the community can come together and share memories of Jackie. The group's live recap page also carries a short memorial note, "2012 - 2026, Jackie passed on 8/10/26, soaring high with Sandy Steers" - a reference to FOBBV's late executive director Sandy Steers, who died earlier this year, not eaglet Sandy, who is unrelated. The nest cams remain live as usual, continuing to show Shadow around the territory.

Jackie died overnight into Monday, August 10, the Ojai Raptor Center says, after three weeks of intensive care; CDFW said she developed a blood clot in her wing and near one kidney in her final days, and the cause of her anemia is still not identified. Her remains are headed to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's National Eagle Repository. At the lake, Shadow holds the territory; FOBBV named the eagle spending growing time with him Kaydee on August 19, and the two have now roosted together six nights running, though FOBBV says nothing about a bond is confirmed. Sandy and Luna appear to have moved on.
