Turn worry into help

How to actually help

Thousands of people want to do something. These are the things that genuinely make a difference, plus a few well-meant impulses that don't.

Support Jackie's care directly

The Ojai Raptor Center runs a dedicated Bald Eagle Rehabilitation Campaign funding the medicine, nutrition, and expert care Jackie is receiving right now. More than 8,400 donations have already come in from her worldwide family.

Support the nest & cams

Friends of Big Bear Valley runs the cameras, protects the habitat, and is the primary official voice for Jackie and Shadow's story, year after year.

Their home is saved: Moon Camp goal met

On July 24, FOBBV and the San Bernardino Mountains Land Trust announced the campaign reached its full $10 million goal — more than 25,000 community donations carried it nearly halfway, and a gift of over $5.5 million from Anna and Greg Brockman closed the gap. The land trust now plans to complete the purchase and preserve Jackie and Shadow's foraging land permanently. No further donations are needed for this campaign; savemooncamp.org remains the only official site for it.

Follow only official updates

News about Jackie will come from FOBBV's channels and the Ojai Raptor Center's email list and social media. Not from screenshots, reposts, or "insider" accounts.

Share facts, gently

When you see a scary claim in a group or comment thread, don't argue: link the official source and move on. Calm, sourced replies do more than corrections ever will.

Please don't

  • Call or text the Ojai Raptor Center's hotline for updates. They've asked that those lines stay open for animals in urgent need.
  • Visit or crowd the rescue or rehab locations. Wild patients recover best with minimal human presence.
  • Repost dramatic claims without a source, even to debunk them. Screenshots outlive corrections.

For the flock

It's okay to feel this deeply

If you've been refreshing feeds, losing sleep, or grieving pre-emptively, you're not being silly. Millions of people have watched Jackie lay eggs in snowstorms, stare down ravens, and raise chick after chick. That's a real relationship, and the ache of not knowing is real too.

Here's what helps: the people caring for Jackie are among the best at what they do. She has no fractures, she is eating, and she is exactly where an injured eagle should be. Uncertainty is not bad news. It's just uncertainty. Shadow, as he always has, is doing his job. Sandy and Luna are flying.

Be kind to each other in the comment sections. That's the community Jackie built.
