FOBBV: please don't demand updates — a petition is straining Jackie's care team

Friends of Big Bear Valley says an online petition demanding more frequent public updates on Jackie is circulating, and the group does not support it. In FOBBV's own words: none of us are entitled to any information, the petition does nothing for Jackie, and it hinders her care team while heightening people's anxiety over the situation. FOBBV also called it a disappointment to see people leaving unkind comments on the Ojai Raptor Center's own posts, and again asked everyone not to call, text, or show up at the center's doors. The Ojai Raptor Center has separately described facing constant requests for information, repeated phone calls, unexpected visits, and messages to staff's personal accounts, all of which pull time and attention away from patient care, including Jackie's. National coverage that followed a few days later noted that despite the frustration, ORC has provided nine health updates in the roughly three weeks since Jackie's rescue. Both organizations ask for patience and say they will keep sharing meaningful updates through their official channels.

Where things stand today

Jackie died overnight into Monday, August 10, the Ojai Raptor Center says, after three weeks of intensive care; CDFW said she developed a blood clot in her wing and near one kidney in her final days, and the cause of her anemia is still not identified. Her remains are headed to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's National Eagle Repository. At the lake, Shadow holds the territory; FOBBV named the eagle spending growing time with him Kaydee on August 19, and the two have now roosted together six nights running, though FOBBV says nothing about a bond is confirmed. Sandy and Luna appear to have moved on.
